My name is John Justen. I am a proud homeowner in the 40 Acres neighborhood of West St. Paul's Second Ward. My wife, Kali, is a librarian with St. Paul Public Library and we are having the adventure of a lifetime raising our two children Michael and David. I am the second generation owner of Eclipse Music - a nationally recognized independent guitar store with roots in West St. Paul for over 35 years.

I have chosen to run for City Council because I love this community.

Why i'm Running for City Council

I firmly believe that city government exists in service of the people of the city. I was raised to believe in fairness and equity for all people and I will use those core tenets to represent the residents of West St. Paul. These are the guiding philosophies I will follow if you elect me to city council.

I’m running for city council because I think it is time for city leadership to listen to and embrace constituent input. I’ve seen the city turn a deaf ear towards clear communication from optimistic, involved, and underrepresented voices. Those voices have always been important to me, and I’ll fight to amplify them when I’m elected.

Our community’s engagement in local politics is at an all time high. We need to welcome that with open arms, encourage it, nurture it, and create pathways for involvement to continue to build a strong community.

I have spent my professional career interacting with people from all walks of life. I pride myself on being an empathetic listener, a good communicator and skilled problem solver.

My vision for the city has not shifted since I ran for the Ward 2 council seat in 2016. Please see my Platform page to learn more about my hopes for the city.
